Every written product I create begins with our relationship. To start, we’ll have a conversation about your vision and goals, so I can better understand how you want the written content to be applied or performed. Then I will use my research skills, interviewing (if applicable), publication examples you provide, and my most skillful approaches to integrate your brand voice into the written creation. The end product will engage your audience through clear and powerful communication of your messages. At project completion, you will receive electronic file(s) (Word, Google Doc and/or PDF) containing your fresh written creative content.

Every authenticity / sensitivity review includes an assessment for the overall use of conscious & inclusive language, and I provide suggested revisions to support an inclusive approach.
Using conscious and inclusive language is never about political correctness, it’s about respect. Authors respect themselves, others and communities when they choose language that supports a broad range of individual life experiences.
Authenticity reviews are best done before other editorial services are provided as recommendations can result in significant changes to the material. Please note: authenticity reviews are not an editing product. I won’t be making any direct changes to your content or document.
I provide consultative review and offer feedback on content describing individual characteristics or the lived experience of people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ), nonbinary, and queer Femmes; and, about people with other lived experiences who are often pushed to cultural margins.
Topics for which I read and provide authenticity and sensitivity reviews include:
Queer, Queer Femme, Nonbinary, and Nonbinary Femme identities
LGBTQ issues more broadly
LGBTQ kink and BDSM
Bullying related to queer identity (school, workplace)
Intimate partner violence & abuse in queer relationships (sometimes referred to as “same-sex,” and “domestic abuse”)
Emotional violence & abuse experiences within families of origin
U.S., and specifically midwest, poverty, working poor life, and class-related traumas and experiences
Wiccan spirituality and practices
Plus-size, curvy, and fat body experiences, “body positivity”
Trauma-informed, aware, and/or sensitive healing practices
Embodiment (especially as related to queer and trans-nonbinary identities)
I provide feedback based on my own thoughts and experiences, and do not claim to represent everyone within the social / demographic groups listed here.
Following an authenticity / sensitivity review of your content, you will receive a comprehensive report from me noting recommended changes to your constructs, frameworks, and/or language use, with sections of your work included as quotes to show what you’ve done well and what you might improve. I’ll also include links to resources that might support your understanding of the topics you’re writing about.

My editing practices and are designed to preserve your voice and bring shine to the authenticity of your messages. My recommendations and edits are not what your reader notices: rather, they will hear what you are sharing, powerfully and clearly.
Genres I edit for include nonfiction, memoir, biography, creative nonfiction, essay collections, self-help, self-improvement, and anthologies.
Sub-genres I focus on include non-dominant spiritualities, meditation and devotion, somatics, embodiment, body-based healing, trauma healing, dance and movement systems, folklore, symbolism, myth, archetypal wisdom, environmental healing, queer Femme identity, nonbinary experience, queer / trans / nonbinary kink and erotica.
I edit short- and long-form written works, including book-length manuscripts; marketing content; technical content and publications; speeches and presentation content.
Substantive Content Review
In a substantive content review, I provide feedback on how your content is or is not achieving what it set out to achieve:
Does it communicate your intended messages clearly and in a smooth sequence? Does your content speak to your defined audience? Does your content need help with overall organization, flow, logic, structure, tone, concept, and language? Does your content need help to sparkle and shine?
Following my substantive content review, you will receive a letter from me outlining what is working well, any suggested areas for improvement, necessary clarifications, and other recommended changes.
Copy and Line Editing
My sentence-level editing is designed to help your content pop and your authentic voice to shine.
During a copy edit, I focus on spelling, grammar, punctuation, and style. I check for stylistic consistency across your content.
During a line edit of each sentence, I focus on your rhythm, flow, clarity, strength of message delivery, and ensure your voice comes through vibrantly.
I am interested in decolonizing language. I utilize a variety of demographic-specific style guides that offer guidelines for writing about people who are often pushed to the margins of communities. My main conventional style guide is the Chicago Manual of Style; I also have working familiarity with APA and AP styles.
Following a copyedit and/or line edit, you will receive two files: a Word or .docx file with recommended changes in either track changes mode (Word) or suggestions mode (Google docs), and a clean copy of your file showing all changes (to make your review easier).
